THE BOOKS

Beverly Crider is a freelance writer with a background in media relations and web design. Back in "pre-Internet days,' she founded the Magic City BBS, a dial-up computer bulletin board system that introduced Alabama to its first online newspaper: the Birmingham Post-Herald.

An Alabama native and proud graduate of the University of Alabama, Beverly currently travels the back roads and forgotten haunts of the state in search of material for her blog, "Strange Alabama," on AL.com and on Facebook. When it's time to put pen to paper (or pixel to screen), she's usually surrounded by her five furry children, also known as the "Crider Critters," who provide their own form of inspiration.

Lost Birmingham

ISBN-978-1609499884

Birmingham has many notable historic landmarks today, but so many more are all but forgotten. The Bangor Cave Casino was once a world-renowned speakeasy. The Thomas Jefferson Hotel featured a zeppelin mooring station, drawing lots of attention from tourists. Other significant sites from the past, such as Hillman Hospital and the buildings on the 'Heaviest Corner on Earth," are unknown even to natives now. Local author Beverly Crider presents an intriguing and educational tour through these and more hidden treasures.
